Recognizing leadership in periodontology and dental implantology.

Biography

Meet Dr. Ethan Madison.

Dr. Ethan Madison treats gum disease, recession, and missing teeth. His clinical interests include guided implant surgery, bone regeneration, and microsurgical gum grafting.

He asks what concerns you and what you hope treatment will achieve. He reviews the findings with you, explains the options, and is direct about the likely result. During treatment, he checks on your comfort and explains each step to the level of detail you prefer.

He completed his certificate in Periodontology and Implant Surgery and his MS at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He earned his DDS at the University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, following a BS in Computer Science at the University of Michigan. That background informs his work with digital imaging, surgical planning, and clinical research.

He practices alongside his father, Dr. Miles Madison. They review complex cases together and want patients to feel as comfortable asking questions as they would with family. Both are faculty at gIDE, where they co-direct Everyday Soft Tissue Mastery and teach gum grafting to dentists and dental specialists.

Clinical approach

How Dr. Ethan Madison works.

  1. 01

    A plan you understand

Discuss your concerns, review your scans together, and decide on the next steps with a clear explanation of timing and cost.

  2. 02

    Microsurgical care

High magnification and fine instruments allow precise work with delicate gum tissue. The technique is chosen for the area being treated.

  3. 03

    Support for dental anxiety

Tell us about past experiences or concerns when you book. We can discuss how to make the visit more comfortable, including sedation options.

  4. 04

    Digital planning

Digital scans help him assess the site and plan implant placement in coordination with the dentist making your final restoration.

Research

Studying how dental implants perform in everyday practice.

Dr. Ethan Madison is an investigator and image review lead for the Dental Implant Restoration Registry, through the Fahimipour Lab at UAB and the National Dental Practice-Based Research Network.

The registry includes 2,087 implants in 1,453 patients across six regions. It follows implants placed and restored in community dental practices, with follow-up over four years.

He revised the radiographic protocol and reviews study images. The research examines how implant placement, grafting, restoration, and patient health relate to outcomes. Follow-up is ongoing; the registry does not yet provide five- or ten-year results.

What the registry records

What the registry records against every implant
